What Defines You?

Most people allow themselves to be defined by things other than who they really are. They allow themselves to be defined by what other people think or by their circumstances, most of which are beyond their control. Or they allow themselves to be defined by their achievements, their level of education, how much money they make or how much power and influence they have. None of these things, in truth, define us. They do they not make us who we are. Rather, they are the result of who we are.

Who we are is not what people can see from the outside. Most of us wear masks. We portray ourselves as we wish people to see us. This is why The Bible says that "out of the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks." This is why Jesus scolded the Pharisees, calling them hypocrites and whitewashed tombs full of dead men's bones. He saw who they were in the inside. Who we are is defined by our character, our integrity, our love for others or by the lack of these things. What you might ask, does this have to do with business? Everything.

Business is about serving others, offering them value, products and services that will make their life better. It's not about how much money you can make. People know when they are being used, and they don't like it. If that is the attitude of your heart, people will see through it and they will reject your offer. Actually they will reject you. A good friend of mine once said, "people love to buy but nobody wants to be sold." If they buy into you, they will buy from you. So who you are has everything to do with the success of your business. put others first and you will prosper. Put self first and you will never truly succeed.
